Objective:

The Venture Insight Competition is an international event that
brings together students from Hong Kong, Thailand and Europe to develop
innovative business proposals through an immersive, simulation- based experience. Participants work in teams to solve real-world case studies provided by corporate partners invited by IABMS.
These companies gain valuable insight from the perspectives of
emerging business leaders, helping to refine their ideas and
strategies.

Following an initial screening of proposals, shortlisted teams will
be invited to pitch their ideas on competition day, and
participate in the business simulation. European participants
who are unable to attend in person will join through Zoom for
pitching and the simulation session.

To ensure fair and transparent evaluation, the final results will be determined using a weighted scoring system, with 70% based on pitching performance (idea quality, feasibility, presentation, and Q&A) and 30% based on simulation performance. The simulation component is designed to test how effectively teams understand and execute their proposed strategies, allowing both participants and observers to assess whether their business concepts perform successfully in a realistic environment.

Competition Format:

This competition combines a case analysis with a business simulation game. Teams of 3–4 students from the same university will act as virtual consultancy firms and compete against other teams. Participants must form teams to enter the competition.

Teams will receive background information on the Farmacy Group and are expected to develop a 3–5 year business plan to improve future product development (e.g., scaling decentralized farming, optimizing supply chains in urban environments, enhancing sustainability metrics, or expanding market reach), operational efficiency, profitability, and financial management. Twenty team will be shortlisted to the Grand Final after the screening by Farmacy Group. The competition’s simulation will run on the “Macro Business Simulation” software. Hong Kong teams will participate on-site at The Education University of Hong Kong, while overseas teams will join online on 9 May 2026.

The overall objective is to achieve the highest combined score from the judges’ pitch session and four rounds of the simulation game. A balanced scorecard will summarize business performance for each period and measure current profitability. The scorecard includes the key elements that determine your company’s total performance score.

Major KPIs used to evaluate each company will be disclosed before the competition and include measures such as Net Present Value (NPV) of accumulated dividends and net income, profit margin, current ratio, and return on equity (ROE). These KPIs account for 30% of the total score. Presentation performance will also account for 30% of the total score.
